Koblenz River Tour

Here are some pictures from a river tour we took from Koblenz. Nicole, Michelle and I went on a little boat ride to see a few of the sights close to Koblenz. I don't think I saw anything on the shores of the Rhine which wasn't beautiful, majestic or romantic. Some typical riverside buildings:

Here is Festung Ehrenbreitstein, a fortress which looms across the river from Koblenz proper. We never visited it, although we saw it frequently. It has important historical implications, none of which I will explain to you now.

Koblenz has a unique situation in Germany, as it rests on the point where the Rhine and the Mosel join together in a bizarre liquid love dance. Here you can see exactly where the rivers meet. The Mosel has the darker water, and the Rhine the lighter. Most assuredly this has important cultural and meteorological implications, none of which I will explain to you now.

This is the German Corner (Deutsches Eck), which is situated at the very spot that the Rhine and Mosel do that thing that they do. The dude on the horse is Kaiser Wilhelm I, an all around cool guy and German hero. For those keeping score at home, his official title was this:

His Imperial and Royal Majesty Wilhelm the First, by the Grace of God, German Emperor and King of Prussia, Margrave of Brandenburg, Burgrave of Nuremberg, Count of Hohenzollern, Duke of Silesia and of the County of Glatz, Grand Duke of the Lower Rhine and of Posen, Duke in Saxony, of Angria, of Westphalia, of Pomerania and of Lunenburg, Duke of Schleswig, of Holstein and of Krossen, Duke of Magdeburg, of Brene, of Guelderland and of Jülich, Cleves and Berg, Duke of the Wends and the Kassubes, of Lauenburg and of Mecklenburg, Landgrave of Hesse and in Thuringia, Margrave of Upper and Lower Lusatia, Prince of Orange, of Rugen, of East Friesland, of Paderborn and of Pyrmont, Prince of Halberstadt, of Münster, of Minden, of Osnabrück, of Hildesheim, of Verden, of Kammin, of Fulda, of Nassau and of Moess, Princely Count of Henneberg, Count of the Mark, of Ravensburg, of Hohenstein, of Tecklenburg and of Lingen,Earl of Foxdale, Count of Mansfield, of Sigmaringen and of Veringen, Lord of Frankfurt, etc.

Most of it's OK, but I'm not so sure about the "Earl of Foxdale" thing - sounds fake to me.

Since I probably didn't mention this specifically, I will now - Nicole and Martin live in Koblenz. They were generous enough to let us stay with them for most of 10 days. It was a great location, and we had an incredible time with them.
